Gregory James Hannan

HEALDSBURG, CA — Gregory James Hannan, 75, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2026. Born on November 30, 1950, Gregory lived a rich, full life defined by service, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to caring for others. Gregory attended primary school at St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Healdsburg, establishing early roots in the community that would remain central to his life. He went on to graduate as a proud member of the inaugural class of Cardinal Newman High School in 1968. Answering the call of duty, Gregory served in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. Following his military service, he worked on the front lines of patient care with Bell's Ambulance alongside his lifelong friend, Wayne Bell, before spending many dedicated years as a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at Healdsburg General Hospital. Bringing his vast medical expertise to a broader scale, he later served the State of California inspecting hospitals and healthcare facilities to ensure high standards of patient care, ultimately retiring from state service after a distinguished career. Gregory’s heart for service and the land extended deep into his community. An avid farmer, dedicated horseman, and outdoor enthusiast, he gave decades of involvement to organizations including the Knights of Columbus, the Boy Scouts of America, the North Coast Draft Horse Club, and the Sonoma County Trail Blazers. In his well-earned retirement, Gregory embraced a love for adventure and cooking, traveling with his wife, Christine Hannan, across Scotland and Ireland. Together, they cherished both the excitement of new journeys and the quiet, meaningful moments of everyday life. He will be fondly remembered by many for his infectious sense of humor and his lifelong passion for telling jokes—both the good ones and the bad ones. Above all, Gregory was a constant source of strength, wisdom, and warmth. His legacy of selfless service, camaraderie, and integrity lives on through the countless lives he touched and the family he loved so deeply. Gregory was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hannan; his mother, Olga Hannan; his uncle, John Hanuska; and numerous aunts and uncles, whom he adored beyond measure. He is survived by wife, Christine Hannan; sister, Carol Jackson; brother, Martin Hannan; children, Mario Hannan (Chrissy), Michael Hannan (Crystal), Andrew Betry (Alica), and Matthew Betry (Michelle); 11 grandchildren; as well as cousins, grand nieces and nephews, and many, many dear friends made throughout a rich life.
