Gail Adams

Gail's Story Gail Elaine Bouldron - Gail Adams (married name) She was born in Ellensburg, Washington on June 24, 1941. She passed away Christmas Eve, December 24, 2024. Her parents were Millard (Jim) Calhoun Bouldron and Myrtle (Rahman) Bouldron. She was the oldest of three daughters. Her two younger sisters, Jenifer Lee Bouldron 1945-2018 & Laurii Bouldron Gadwa (living). Before her two sisters were born, the family moved from Ellensburg to the Kent, Washington area where Gail and her siblings attended school. Gail always loved school and was involved in many activities at school as were her siblings. Gail continued her education at the University of Puget Sound earning a bachelor's degree. She again was involved in many school activities and she was the President of her sorority, Phi Beta Gamma. She took a break and along with two friends spent 6 months touring each country around the Mediterranean in their Land Rover, camping most nights. It was an experience of a lifetime, and she had memories that lasted. Returning to the U.S., she decided to move to San Francisco where she furthered her education at the University of San Francisco and earned a master's degree in Education and obtaining a teaching credential. Shortly after, she began her career at San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) where she began as an elementary teacher (Math) and later became an Administrator heading up The Beginning Teacher Program and the Gifted and Talented Program (GATE). She stayed at SFUSD for 33 years and loved every bit of it and the people - many of whom she kept contact with after retiring. During her beginning years as a teacher, to supplement her teacher salary she worked seasonally as a tax professional. She earned the EA (Enrolled Agent) professional designation. She excelled at tax work and continued doing that also for 33 years. Gail loved having the summers off and many weeks she spent In Healdsburg where she decided that she wanted to live in retirement. She started going to Healdsburg in her connection with the Dry Creek Vineyard where she was one of the founding members in the early 1970s. She loved her association there and that is where she and I had our wedding party in 1992. Gail was married twice, the first produced two children - Geoffrey and Jennifer, both living in California. Gail and I have been married for almost 33 years now. We met at a wedding dinner in 1989 after I had just been transferred by my job from Seattle to the Bay Area. A very interesting feature of our marriage became evident a couple of years ago. I, Dan Hiles, her second husband, do family history work as a hobby. As such, Gail and I both had our DNA tested - guess what -we are cousins. What a nice thing! The connection was found through Captain Rufus Calhoun's branch, very special. Besides her career work, Gail was always busy. She loved going to the symphony and we were members of the San Francisco Symphony and later the Santa Rosa Symphony. She also played the piano almost daily treating us all. Her other favorite activities were doing needlepoint - of which we have numerous beautiful, framed pieces of art and she loved baking and cooking. Another activity Gail involved herself was taking 18 months to train our Guide-Dog-For-the Blind puppy. We received Dino the first week of December 2011, a male yellow lab. And turned him back in after the training period with strong emotions about having to give him up - but during his physical they discovered that he had a cataract and could not be in the program - did we want him back - we rushed to San Rafael and took him back. Sadly, Dino passed away in November of this year, 2024, at the age of 13. We miss him so much. Gail excelled at her work as shown by her results. She enjoyed working and being with people - and many still are in contact. The last eight years suffering from Lewy Body Dementia has finally taken its toll, so very sad. Gail has requested to not have any funeral services - but donations to some charities, in her memory, would be fine.
