James Francis Como

In Remembrance, James Francis Como, 83 Beloved father, loyal, steadfast brother & friend, USMC veteran, and Gold Star son peacefully passed of natural causes surrounded by his loving family in Windsor, California. James was born April 13, 1942, in Oil City, Pennsylvania. He was the first of two children born to John (Johnny) & Joan Como (Brown). Johnny, a young 26 and well-known amateur boxing prize-fighter, was killed in France serving his country as a PFC Naval officer during WWII. James was just a young toddler raised by his single mother and grandmother. Service A proud Gold Star son: a life defined by service and sacrifice, he carried the legacy of his father with honor throughout his entire life. James took great pride sharing the many stories he was told as a boy, about the “champion fighter”. While serving in the Marine Corp in the Vietnam era as a "Blue Water Marine" —those who served offshore on naval vessels— James received distinguished honors for his expert riflery and heavy artillery marksmanship. His military service instilled attention to detail, discipline and unwavering commitment —qualities he cherished and actively encouraged in his children, teaching them the importance of perseverance and integrity through his example and guidance. An Artist James loved drawing from an early age and became a gifted artist. He preferred oil painting, but his sketching was just as impressive. He had a deep interest in Native American Indians and their extraordinary culture often bringing their character to life in his sketching. On reverse you’ll find his cougar, Lawrence of Arabia and JFK which he did while overseas. Career Aerospace Engineering & Manufacturing, specifically high-precision sheet metal for U.S. Military aircraft, weaponry & components. After over 55 years in the industry, James ultimately retired as the company’s chief cost estimator. A Life Lived Outdoors James truly loved the outdoors and found immense joy in activities such as fishing, camping, off-roading, and sailing. Every summer he would help the family escape Phoenix’s excruciating heat to the cool mountains of Flagstaff AZ. Each year, James’ culinary skills made him an essential part of the annual mass cattle round-up at Morman Lake. He prepared hearty meals over an open fire for a group of long-time & dear cowboy friends who hosted the event. This became a cherished tradition, further deepening the bonds formed among friends and family around the campfire with the shared appreciation for a task well done. Our dad created lasting memories and passed down his love for nature and adventure to those he loved most. Family James is survived by daughter Patricia Enochian (Gary), and son James Robert Como, two sons: Michael Reilly, Richard Arrington and their families. Grandchildren: Stella, Avielle, and lil’ Maggie. Sister-in-law Debbie Como, nephews Duke & Dae Como of Texas. Preceded by his parents and younger brother William R. Como. Finding Peace In late January, after spending much of his life searching through cemeteries for the place where his father was buried, James finally discovered that his own final resting place would be right beside his father, John Como. This realization provided him with a sense of closure and comfort, knowing he would be reunited with his father in eternity. This news was greatly emotional & joyful.
